Networker heating

I was on a 365 going to work this morning and there was no heating. It was really cold and I had my warm coat fastened up over my suit the whole way from Huntingdon to KX.

The last time I complained to FCC about the heating was a couple of days in August, when the floor heaters were blasting hot air up at me. I just got fobbed off by FCC saying that the driver has no control and that the temperature is pre-set. I would have welcomed the hot air from August on this morning's journey, when the floor heaters were decidedly cold to the touch.

So what is it about 365s that makes the heating so temperamental? Is there a design flaw, or are the engineers at the depot forgetting to do their job?

Was it just the one coach or the whole unit? Did you not decide to move to another coach?

The heating is indeed pre-set and it either works or it doesn't. All the driver can do is check that none of the breakers have tripped, attempt to reset any that have and then fault it for the attention of the fitters. Usually what happens is that a thermostat fails so the heating is stuck full on or doesn't work at all. These things are not temperamental as such, but things do break from time to time and that applies to all classes of train and not just Networkers.

365's DO have a heating off button and heating/lighting set button.

So that's "On" and "Off". But these don't help much when you've got a knackered thermostat. All it does is remove the need to go into the middle of the unit to trip out the Heating Control MCB when the weather gets swelteringly hot.
