It used to happen a lot at Aylesham and Dover Priory, where they would randomly show the wrong numbers, lol. Although I miss them now that they are gone they were far better than the current ones.

Yep, 86401 is now owned by Electric Traction Limited and has been repainted back into it's unique (for a class 86) Network Southeast livery it wore when used on the Northampton cobblers back in the late 80s.It can often be seen at Willesden when passing on the WCML.

As is noted above, those clocks were definitely not exclusive to NSE, they were EVERYWHERE! Used to have them on all the major stations round my way: Sunderland, Newcastle, Doncaster, etc. It was very soothing waiting on Sunderland station, with beams of sunlight trickling down (Before they completely closed the station in ) for the next Newcastle train, with the silence only broken by the constant tick, tick, tick, of the big red clock. I don't like the new clocks they've replaced them with, it's just too quiet now!

I can remember them showing some pretty peculiar times as well!

If anywhere is going to sell those clocks it'll be Collector's Corner. I remember going there when it was at Cobourg Street but I hear it's at NRM now. Last time I went they had one of those round windows with "speak here" in it which I always associated with the railways.

Can you still see these on any other units like the electric Networkers?

The Southeastern Networkers still have their murals (except for the 455/9s), as do the unrefurbished FGW turbos, although they are in the process of being removed from the latter as the refurbishment programme progresses. I think that is the lot though.

The murals on a lot of ex-NSE stock are still there beneath the paintwork. Occasionally when a lot of graffiti remover has been used on the toilet wall of a class 165/0 and the paint has started to thin, you can see a ghostly image of Claydon House beneath!

Love the site, don't suppose you might be lucky enough to find any West Anglia, Great Northern or Thameslink posters or murals....please?

I have standing searches on ebay. I've never seen any Thameslink posters come up, though I have seen the West Anglia original train transfer once (the line branding that went on trains next to their doors).

Makes me wish I'd "non-return borrowed" the odd poster from Bedford station on those late nights getting back from London. oh well.

It didnt REALLY suit the Class 50 though, did it? I always thought it made them look smaller.

Like the site you link to though. It does oddly suit the Brighton Belle, and look great on the Javelin.

The GCR's 4BIG unit's buffet car still has an NSE interior. Rode it a few months ago and it was a wonderfully nostalgic experience. Really reminded me of the similarly-interiored VEPs that I used to ride as a child around Kent and into London.

I'm definately missing there being a VEP out and about. They were pretty ubiquitous but I always liked them. One of them was the last slammer I ever took to my home town in Ashford (not counting a railtour passing through).

Agreed. 50s were the exception to the rule. NSE livery enhanced most rolling stock but the 50s looked crap in both versions of the livery. You just can't beat BR large logo livery on a 50. Nothing else quite hits the mark.

It is also worth pointing out the appearance of Watford West and Croxley Green stations. Both haven been closed since March 2006 according to the DfT's list of closure dates of closed stations.

Yes that's good branding. As far as I'm concerned it's still Network SouthEast. There's certainly nothing happening in my local area (South Eastern Division) that couldn't have been done as well (or probably better) by Network SouthEast.

Best part of NSE was the brandings applied to some routes - Thames, Sussex Coast, Kent Link, etc, proudly displayed on the trains sometimes even with branding to indicate the type of train - "Thames Turbo", "Kent Link Networker", etc. Even small routes like North Downs and Marshlink had their own unqiue indentity.

When NSE was broken up Network Southcentral (post NSE/pre Connex) removed the 'Sussex Coast' and 'South London Lines' branding from the trains even though other shadow franchises still carried their route brandings and 'Network Southeast' on the trains. Then of course Connex quickly replaced the NSE livery with the dull Connex livery which never weathered very well; even by 1999 it was rare to see a NSE-livered slamdoor EMU.

Some EMUs were branded as Capital Coast Express for the Brighton/London fast service until the class 319/2 took over.
