Network Railcard

It's years since I had one of these railcards and am just wondering:

1. When you appply, do they require a photo or any form of proof of address ? Without a photo it struck me that the card could quite easily be abused by just lending to your mate and giving him your bank / credit card so he appeared to be you.

2. On the £13 minimum fare. Is that £ 13 pre or post the 1/3 discount ?

Not sure on the first bit other than I know there is no photo printed on the card, but your answer to your second question is that the £13 minimum fare is after the discount has been applied.

No, you don't need a photocard or any proof of address. You're right, it could be abused, but as the Network Railcard is quite limited in the area and times it is useable, and there are no eligibility requirements, I guess it was considered more effort than it's worth to prevent this. You might be required to sign it on the back, I can't remember.

The minimum fare is something which seems to confuse some people. As Mike395 says, it's the fare after discount, thus:
A £30 fare becomes £20 (after 10:00 or any time weekends; no discount before).
A £15 fare becomes £13 (M-F after 10:00; £10 at weekends)
A £10 fare is not discounted (£6.60 at weekends).

Do remember, for weekday travel, that 10:00 rule- strictly no travel using tickets with the discount before that time.

On the other hand, remember that you can have four adults using the one card together, legally as long as the named cardholder is part of the group. Unlike a GroupSave, you could have someone (not the cardholder) opt not to come back (though they would then need a new ticket for any further travel) without invaldiating everyone elses tickets

There are quite a few easements though, to allow for trains that leave particular stations just before 1000, and with infrequent services,

In the case of the West of England line there are even more significant easements, such as the 0826 from Exeter St Davids...

Not strictly true, if you get the London Terminals to Calais Day Return you can travel on any train before 10am
