According to network railcard T&C, point 4.5 a Network railcard holder can buy tickets for a group up to 4 adults which should travel together throughout the journey. I already have an off-peak return from Shalford (SFR) to Oxford (OXF). But it turned out this time I will be travelling with a friend of mine on the outward journey only. In order for us to share the Network railcard, do I have to buy them an identical ticket or can it be single?

In case it comes useful: I have been advised by the ticket office staff that in this scenario you are allowed to buy a single (one-way) ticket with Network Rail Card discount for the second person travelling.
