I was recently at Paddington station on a Monday morning and I needed to buy 2 tickets for the journey I wished to make: a 3 day Thames Rover with Network Railcard discount and an Off Peak Day Return from Moreton in Marsh to Worcester stations so that I could complete the Cotswold line. The second ticket should have been £11.70 but the clerk charged me £7.75 (applying the railcard discount). I think this was a mistake and when I noticed (halfway to Reading), I expected to be picked up on it later on and at least asked to pay the difference. Fortunately I wasn't and the guard on the return train from Worcester didn't notice when I accidentally presented the outward portion which hadn't been checked earlier!
Anyway, this got me to thinking about the T&Cs of the Network Railcard.
Condition 7 states (my bold):
As we know according to condition 19 of the NRCoC, we can use two or more tickets for one journey as long as together they cover the entire journey (subject to the various clauses).
So, was the clerk in fact correct in applying the discount to my second ticket as the cost of the Rover had already exceeded the minimum??
I have a leaflet for the railcard which says in the blurb that minimum fares apply to each ticket but the actual T&Cs that you sign up to specifically state that it applies to the journey!
