Network Railcard Easements from Waterloo?

A friend travelled from Waterloo to Earley this morning. She had a Network Railcard discounted off-peak single ticket purchased on Monday morning for use today. She arrived at Waterloo at 9am. I suggested to her that the first train she could use would be the 10:20am, but that she should double-check this with station staff. On arrival, she went to the enquiry desk and was told she could travel on the 9:50am Reading service.

I was surprised by this as I thought it wasn't possible to travel on a Network Railcard discounted ticket before 10am, unless there was an Easement. I've looked on the Network Railcard website and there don't appear to be any easements from services from Waterloo.

So was she given incorrect information? Or is there an easement that's not listed on the Network Railcard website?

It's possible that they were advising the first train after 0930, which is the time many staff and passengers consider "off peak" to begin - the NSE discount may not have been noticed.

You are correct that the ticket is not valid before 1000; without the NSE discount it would be valid on the 0920 and 0950 (valid from Waterloo from 0920).

By the way, for travel via Staines, the Anytime Single is cheaper than the Off Peak Single, although they are the same price in the week due to the minimum fare.

I can't find an Off-Peak Day Single for this journey - the Anytime Day Single is the ruling fare for a single journey throughout weekdays and weekends.

There's no Via Staines CDS for London-Earley; there is an Any Permitted (valid also via Reading), which is what I assumed the OP's friend had.
