Hi im a new starter for NR working in signalling maintenance.

I was hoping if anyone from NR could clarify shift premium/enhancements for me. Does it mean extra money for working such and such time even though your rostered to work that day if it makes sense.

or is that just overtime you can do ?

Well, the answer is I'm not sure.

If you're in the grades you get all sorts of lovely inducements, if you're in the bands, you probably don't.

Don't quote me on it, but I believe enhancements are generally paid as a percentage of the shift, regardless of whether it's a rostered shift or not. It should be in your contract if you have it yet.

Ive just checked through my contract and im in fact graded which is lovely jubbs and i have looked in my contract and i did see the section about shift enhancements but it was worded in a way which makes it difficult to understand.

I've been with NR for near enough 2 years now and I'm still struggling to understand my enhancements.

If your enhancements are like ours (I'm also in the grades) then any overtime you work on booked days (say, doing an extra 4 hours on a day you're working 8) the extra hours are paid at the normal rate.

If you work a shift on one of your booked days off (rest days) you get all hours worked at 125%.

Sunday's are always paid at 150%

Bank holidays are paid at either 250% or 150% and a day off in lieu.

Night premiums are set depending on the grade. If you PM me your email address I can be more comprehensive.

I believe S&T operatives etc are all graded, they are just on different rates and T&Cs to us.

i think there are 3 grades to s & t (correct me if wrong). grade is 3 is operative, grade 2 is technician, grade 1 is team leader.

im grade 3 and my shift enhancements are not the like the ones you have mentioned tomboyd ! also i have no idea how to PM you.
