And I assume you have proof for all this then do you? Even if Network Rail wanted to ban steam, they cant. It is enshired in open access principles and in legislation.

Steam has been suspended on the ECML, pending a through enquiry, after the last little debacle. Lets not forget that the unpleasentness caused 1000's of delay minutes, and costs thousands of pounds in compensation. No wonder the Tocs got a bit pi**ed off!

Also steam is prevented from leaving Kings Cross on a weekday becuase of timtetbale issues. There is one possible path but it is very tight on timings. Again the Tocs are not keen on suffering a delay, which costs them money and damages thier reputation, becuase of steam engine getting into difficulty. The Eureka timetable caused ths issue, nothing else.

There really isnt some kind of vendetta or hidden agenda at work!

It is? What specific parts of legislation is it protected by, because BR seemed to have the final word on steam (after all it was banned from the mainline for sometime) without any worries of legislation. I don't doubt you DarloRich but I'm just curious as to what actually protects steam.

Steam is now allowed back on the ECML when operated by DBS as they have come to an agreement, further discussions are continuing between NR and WCRC. I cant find where i read it im working on it.

Page 79 of Feb edition of Steam Railway. Repsonses by a Rachel Gilliland of NR and Nigel Dobbing of RTC. Seems like, following the Newark incident, that NR asked DBS and WCRC as to what they would do differently to allow the steam ban to be reviewed. Whilst DBS responded (and hence Tornado's subsequent trip), seems like NR are still awaiting a response / "conversation" from / with WCRC.

It doesn't have network change approval yet! It might never happen

BTW i have not forgotten about the paperwork (above) just been up to my eyes and out of the office a lot!

Harrogate chord is the long floated idea to connect the station south lines to the avoiding lines enabling harrogate trains to depart from the south. This would in effect enable turning of locos if they run north, reverse and run through the yard and over the chord into the station.
Perhaps 20 years of planning and say 30 million could make it happen.

Sounds like that will be in use when Nelson gets his eye back then?

Think we will have to wait along time for any thing to happen at Harrogate, as they have only just got there East Coast HST service to come back on an evening. Also still in semaphore signalling area, very upto date and cutting edge.

You are referring here to a chord from the south end of York station round towards the avoiding lines?

So that will go straight through the middle of the new ROC. How the heck does that solve the problem?

It solves the problem at the north bit of the station where the Harrogate train has to wait to get onto the mainline section, and also stops any conflicting moves between the Harrogate services and any north-south expresses. There would have to be a bay put in where the Parcel Sidings are.

Sure - I can see how it would work, but NR's plans for the ROC prevent it, for the same reasons the triangle has to be lifted, don't they?

Yes it would, but that bit of line between the north of the station and Skelton Junction is a bottleneck now and is only going to get worse.

There is still quite a lot of of other land around that could be used by NR.
