Network Rail Operative Medical

Hi there

Today I've received a job offer from Network Rail as an off track operative. I was just wondering if anyone can advise the eyesight requirements and if glasses/contacts are ok? I recently had an eye test and was told one eye is short and the other long sighted but my sight with both eyes together is ok as they cancel each other out, would this cause an issue at my medical and would I be safer getting a prescription from my opticians before the medical?

Eye sight tests are cover one eye and read letters off the white board and vice versa.And also read numbers from a book to make sure no colour blindness.

If your that worried about eye tests get some glasses just in case in the day you need them then your covered all angles

You'll be sound, I done my medical in October and I wear contacts and specs. Your eyesight would have to be shockingly bad to fail on that field. Don't worry about it.

Thanks for the replies....I'm probably in a panic over nothing but I'll get a cheap pair of glasses to take on the day to be safe

I am also in a panic regarding the medical. I recieved a formal offer at the end of November and due to have my medical in the new year. I have known my eye sight isn't great for some time and took the time to go to the opticians which was woeful I need glasses all the time and got told I have a high risk of glaucoma and awaiting to see an eye specialist. It was for a track maintenance position which I know is a safety critical role

Tell your optician/ophthalmologist that you need to be able to pass -
6/12 in the worse eye, 6/9 in the better eye corrected
3/60 in both eyes uncorrected
