Network rail off track operative job

Hi all im looking for any information about the above job. I have applied and made it through past application and online testing and i have been reading alot on the forum and doing research but am having trouble finding out a couple of things:

1. The job salary advertised is £28,800 would this include unsociable hours or is it added on?
2. I have read that there is plenty of overtime available does anybody know rates and sunday rates?
3. Im coming from the building trade and normally work 8-5 and know that the role is shift work over possibly seven week roster does anyone have any examples to share, im more curious than anything
4. I have read that career progression is there working for network rail providing that you are willing to work hard and put the hours in. Has anyone started at operative and furthered their career just wondered what career paths others have taken.

The job is advertised for the Ely area.
Any help with these questions would be appreciated and co considered a great help.
Im excited at the opportunity and would very much like to join the railway industry.

Hi mate, i’ll try my best to answer.

1. That is your flat basic excluding any overtime etc.

2. Overtime totally depends on the depot(workload) and the rates depend on the t&c’s.

3. Not sure how off track work but maintenance have a set roster. Im construction so my roster is based around planned work. Saturday nights are usually 12 hours. Midweek - totally varies.

4. There is career progression from what i’ve seen but be prepared to move around(change jobs, different locations etc) and keep yourself to yourself.

Adding to the previous comments:

Your salary is your flat rate. This is bumped up by such things as overtime and night shift enhancement. You could easily stick another £10,000 on that as the railway runs on overtime. You will also get an On Call allowance added on. Sunday rate is 150% and I believe night shift enhancement is 30%.

It will be dependent on your roster. Up our way, day shift is 0730 - 1500 where you will do work such as fence inspections, access points inspections, and minor maintenance work. On night shift and in possessions, work can range from lifting level crossings for the PWAY, chainsaw work, flailing vegetation, repairing level crossings or repairing access points. Rosters are generally 35 hours a week, days or nights.

Progression is there if you want it, are prepared to learn and move about.

There are a lot worse jobs out there.

Thanks for your reply thats handy information. It doesnt seem bad money for a maintenance role at all.

Are Sunday's paid on top of salary or does the salary include your rota'd Sundays?

The salary is your basic mate

dependent what ex IMC terms is in that area the enhancements will differ from others within network rail
