I haven't had time to read through it yet, but here's the report on HS2:

From what I've read of the synopsis, it looks like the West Coast option, with branches. Glasgow to London in 2hr 15 mins anyone?

Unlikely to happen, IMHO. It is hard to imagine a route using the West Coast option that will not be destroyed by the planning process - unless a dictatorial government overrules the need for that, which it wont. Eastern route would have had more chance, even a central one.
Compared with the European countries that have made a success of High Speed Lines, most of GB is too densely populated

And it seems the Tories are set to win the next election, who are scared of a) public transport b) spending public money c) making it easier for people to travel to/from the north... :roll:
