Are there any network rail depots up and around southport/Crosby/formby ways? Seems to be central is the closest one? Anybody have any info please.

Depending on what discipline you want to do depends on the depot. Wigan has track (PWay) and electrification and plant. Warrington has S&T (signalling), track and a few others. Liverpool central has most departments. Preston also has most departments. But other than those they are the closest to you for on track roles.
