in Civil Engineering Surveyor magazine they've got an article on NRs project to survey the tracks and particularly the trackside trees.

They hope to identify trouble areas and prevent delays caused by fallen trees.

I'd scan it in if anyone's interested.

If NR chop any more trees down, we'll have a potentially far more serious problem.

Subsidence, they seem to be blissfully ignorant that it's the trees & shrubs that's holding the embankments & cuttings together with their root systems, chop it down, kill it and as the saying goes "Just add water" and oh dear, millions of pounds in repair work, because the bank has slipped down on to or from underneath the track.:roll:

They're not intending to chop them down, they're using a mix of many different mediums, such as GPS/Photography/Soil samples to identify areas where there are problems, such as subsidance.

They're making a map of the entire network to allow the monitoring of the condition of the infrastructure and surrounding plant life.
