Network Rail + BTP response

I've never actually seen a BTP car on blue lights and a Network Rail Response unit at an incident before! (Save for anything that makes headline news)

(This isn't even meant to play into the hands of the subset of users here who joke that BTP don't do anything useful, I was genuinely interested in seeing a joint agency response but I couldn't work out what the issue was)

Throughout the Network a number of Emergency Intervention Units operate with some being based at Police facilities rather than railway depots.
They are staffed by a BTP driver ( often upskilled as a Police Medic) and either a Network Rail “MIO” Mobile Incident Officer or a “ MOM” Mobile Operations Manager on o t ££ if no dedicated MIO available.

The joint response units carry Police Livery and have Visual & Audible (blue light/ siren) and are permitted to use these to convey railway staff to incidents if certain criteria met.

I wasn't intending to suggest anything else - hence why I specifically said "Network rail response unit" in my post the reference to "joint agency response" was about there being both a BTP Police Car and a Network Rail Response Unit there - apologies if that was clumsily worded. Thanks for the interesting info about the truly joint response units though - I didn't know these existed

Some larger vehicles also dotted around the country these have NR drivers rather than police

The BTP do blue light in as and when it's warranted sadly usually retroactively (with local force backup), there is joint teams too Geof Marshall joined one for a shift a while back,

I've seen BTP + MOM + contracted security react to vulnerable/suicidal people altogether very effectively. Usually retroactively, but it should be emphasised that they do manage to prevent things early as well.

Not arguing that point they do work hard but there is still some gaps even in bigger urban environments that are noticeable. Although it's always good to see them arrive when things are on a knife edge (both metaphorically & litterally), although policing has been cut to the bone both on and off the railways so the pressure on all forces makes it a concern but the Huntingdon stabbing incident proves how well a situation can be shut down in a short space of time.

In the Midlands there is now also a BTP/Mental Health assistance team to respond to vulnerable people on the railway so the person gets targeted help straight away and not held for hours until a Mental Health Nurse can be sourced

Anecdotally ive heard BTP do more blue light travel than might be expected as they are usually travelling long distances between in incidents

Certainly see plenty of BTP on blue lights in my work area - their patch is huge and if they need to get to something like a fatality or similar then blue lights are required. They're generally obvious to those who know what they look like as they use different vehicles to the Home Office force.
