You won't get made redundant, but you may have to move for work.

Bin the coloured pencils, bin the football boots (unless you want to play of course)

Do you know if you get much chance to play rugby? I'm not really in to football. They said you do at least two hours sports/fitness a week as part of the course and they expect at least two hours in your own time. You can't just have a 'kick-about' with rugby the same as football.

The two hours of sport and fitness certainly wasn't compulsory when I was there. They might be referring to the Saturday morning ILM stuff, which usually includes dicking about on the assault course or something.

There are plenty of opportunities to play sport, the Apprentices normally field teams to play against the Navy. There's almost always a football team, but I don't remember there being a rugby team, though that invariably changes if there's enough interest shown. Folk definitely played rugby down there, though I didn't as it wasn't really my thing so I couldn't tell you how involved it got. I know one guy (who played amateur rugby) actually signed up for a local team to get his training sessions in and made a few appearances for them.

Anyone here getting or waiting on a job in scotland? there seems to be a lot of people still to hear anything and the open day at gosport seems to be on 3rd august not a lot of notice for getting transport if its good news and it will be expensive for me and my dad to both travel if we book at this late stage!

I've got one of the track positions at Glasgow, where have you appled for? Its really expensive from Scotland, Edinburgh>Southampton with Flybe is £374 for 3 of us :s

I'm not sure. I don't have the first clue about pensions, I just pay money in, they match it, it gets invested and some money comes back as a return or something. It's not as good as the Railways Pension Scheme, which can be joined after 5 years service; this may be closed to new applicants though.

How much are you paying in? Did you select the CARE scheme?

I've got the Defined Contributions thing, or something. I'm just biding time until I can get into the RPS. I can't tell you what I'm paying in, don't have a payslip handy. It's not a great deal, not by pension standards, but you set the rate.

I got some advice on the pension schemes today. The CARE scheme is the better of the two. With the NRDC scheme you are essentially gambling your money and the money you are paying in is going to be worth less when you come to retire.

Good thing I won't have it when I retire then! I know there was a bit of a shakeup last year with this Smart Pension thing, but it's beyond me. Like I said, it's just a stop gap measure until RPS opens up to me next year.

CARE is fixed at 7.2%?

So could anyone give me some examples of the questions they ask? So I can prepare some examples for the interview, thanks.

Also, how long does the interview last for? Thanks

On the e-mail they sent it had some "questions they will ask" so just read through them as that is approximately what they will be based around, and should be between 30 mins and 1 hour

They did ring but I missed the call so he just sent the email with the details. My medical is in Long Eaton, not exactly ideal but it doesn't look too far from the station.

I'm more nervous about this than the interview... it says to avoid using headphones for 48 hours before and avoid loud noises such as loud music, band practice and rifle fire. I'm going to a history festival on Sunday where there will be quite a few re-enactment battles, so lots of rifle fire!

Haha the most bizarre one of the 3 loud noises they suggested and your actually going to be affected by it :)
