Network Rail Apprenticeship 2020

Hi guys,

I'm new to this group, and i'm due to start in March for Off-Track/Track, which i'm cool with that. What's the difference for Technician and Operative? Also, when I have complete the three years training in 2023. Will be there more job opportunities after Off-track/Track? Would be happy to work with Network Rail for rest the of my career... Also, is salary great with roster premium and over-time? Such as more years of experiences, upper the salary?

Sorry for the many questions, it's a massive decision of my life. It's my first time to apply apprenticeship and got in first time which i didn't expected!

Off track and track are two quite different things - do they not specify which now?

There are three grades; operative is at the bottom, technician in the middle, and teamleader at the top.

There are plenty of opportunities once you're in Network Rail and finish your apprenticeship as all the externally advertised jobs open up to you.

I don't know the exact pay for those disciplines, but pay with NR is generally good, especially when you take into account premiums and overtime. In some places you can get slightly different levels of pay within a grade (e.g. a more experienced technician earning more than a new one) but normally you'd need to move up a grade in order to get anything more than the normal payrises.
