The day commences with a company presentation introducing you to Network Rail and the Advanced Apprenticeship Scheme. You are also welcome to bring a parent or guardian with you to attend the presentation. Space is limited to just ONE person accompanying you. The presentation will last approximately 30 minutes, after which we ask your guest to leave and then return at the end of the day to meet you.
During the remainder of the day you will participate in:
A Group Exercise
A Competency Based Interview
Technical Understanding. This test is intended to highlight your strengths and capabilities. For guidance on some of this test and to take a chance to look at some example questions please visit

Administration session, where we will countersign all of your identity and qualification documents. There will also be some forms to fill in, and we will ask you confirm some of the information from your application form.
There will also be the opportunity for you to meet some of our current apprentices, and to ask them questions about the scheme, qualifications, and life at Gosport.
There is a smart dress-code in place for the duration of the day and we therefore ask candidates to refrain from wearing trainers or denim clothing. Whilst we want you to be comfortable, it is important to remember that this is a job interview and your first chance to make a good impression with your future employer.
If successful you will be working and living on a military establishment and will be required to complete a security check form. At the assessment day it's essential that you provide an original form of identification plus 2 additional photocopies.
You MUST bring the following items with you to the selection day:
1. Your Passport (plus 2 photocopies – see guidance on which pages to copy below).
Photocopy the front cover of the passport
Photocopy the passport details page and accompanying page (will have the photo, country of issue and expiry date on this page)
If the passport has expired there may be an extension stamp elsewhere in the passport – you will also need to photocopy this
If you have a visa to live and work in the UK, photocopy the Visa for the UK page – this could be a permit which has a photo and an expiry date or could just be a stamp with an expiry date.
If you DO NOT have a passport please bring the original and photocopy of the following items:
A FULL Birth Certificate (plus 1 photocopy)
Proof of National Insurance Number i.e. P60/P45 or Payslip or National Insurance card (plus 1 photocopy)
UK Drivers Licence, photocard and counterpart (plus 1 photocopy)
2. TWO Passport size photographs (of you only, taken within the last month).
3. Your original exam certificates (plus 2 photocopies).
We require photocopies of the 4 qualifications that you are used on your application form to prove that you meet our minimum academic entry requirements. We only require your certificates for these 4 Qualifications.
If you studied overseas, you will need to also bring a translation document of your qualifications (to prove they are equivalent to UK GCSE’s / Scottish Standards). This must be provided by UKNaric.
If you are unsure which qualifications you used in this section of your application form, please check on the printable version of your application form (available in the my account area) prior to attending the assessment centre.
Please note that failure to bring the correct identity documents and qualification documents that match the 4 essential qualifications to the assessment centre will result in you being withdrawn from the process. You have been advised throughout the recruitment process of the need to bring these documents to the assessment centre.
