Information about the visiting locos and the timetable for this event on 18th & 19th May is now on the NVR Website. There should be 7 visiting locos each day.

Certainly agree this is an impressive line up.

The real icing on the cake would be for a pair of bright orange class 20/3s to turn up.
(Yours truly still needs 20314 for haulage).

As far as I'm aware, it's one twenty on Saturday and a different one on the Sunday.

I've only heard about two running together, they won't split them.
20096+20107 (BR Blue pair) & 20311+20314 (HNRC orange pair) are on tube stock moves this week so it'll be either pair for the NVR :p :)
Thanks, Sam

unfortunately 47727 has failed and Colas are unable to supply anything else.
So its now an EE Gala.
Will have a look at the roster but to keep the 56301 posse happy, 56301 will be doing the 1637 ex Wansford on Saturday vice 47.
Hope that pleases a few !

What about the other two out and back workings 47727 was supposed to working?
Thanks, Sam

GBRf have confirmed that subject to all the usual, 20311 & 20314 should be the ones.
Also 56303 is likely to be the extra 56 from DCR and will be doing the move in and out of NVR.

The revised roster to reflect the loss of 47727 can be found here..

http://www.nvr.org.uk/events/spring-diesel-gala

Basically 50008 gets an extra run each day, the 20s get 3 round trips on Saturday, 56301 gets an extra trip on Saturday.

This is my first time at any preserved railway, I am travelling from Blackburn to Peterborough, so can anyone tell me the best way to get there from Peterborough mainline station. Also when booking tickets for the gala via NVR website it says tickets will not be sent via post but by email and must be presented at Wansford booking office to be validated can anyone tell me if I am able to use this from the nearest NVR station to Peterborough mainline station to Wansford in order to get it validated?

Thanks for any help and its much appreciated

Yes you can use them from any station, but you will need to go to the booking office to validate the ticket and get your gift aid voucher if you have a gift aided the fare. Although saying that they sometimes validate them at Peterborough on the galas.

If you have a smart phone, they can scan the tickets from the email, so you don't need to print the ticket out.

For visiting tommorrow and Sunday, the cafe is selling grab and go lunch bags for £5. The bag contains either a ham or cheese sandwich, sausage roll, crisps, a chocy bar and a bottle of pop.

Also have a look at ferry meadows and see the changes to the yard as work begins on site for the night mail museum. All sales from the second hand bookshop at wansford goes towards this project and the upkeep of the Tpo cariages.

50008 has failed. From WNXX:

5801 on WNXX said:
Unfortunately 50008 has failed with electrical issues discovered on a loaded test run.Despite DCR working on it for most of the day, they have not being able to resolve the problem.
56303 will now work the 0922 ex Wansford, 56301 will work with 31108 on the 1131 and 37109 will now work the 1735 and the beerex.
Will advise about Sunday tomorrow.

Saturday turned out to be an enjoyable day with three winners for haulage (20314, 56103 and Swedish DMU 1212).

Add to that the audio entertainment from 37109, especially in Wansford tunnel on the beerex, and the pyrotechnics from 56103.

And I hope those £5 'grab bags' become a permanent feature at future gala events.

Lunch bags sold in the buffet at Wansford - see Mvann's post for full details. (Works out far cheaper than buying each item individually)

So its now an EE Gala.

Actually it was an EE and Ruston Paxman Gala - But EE did dominate. With there being more operational English Electric locomotives in preservation than Sulzer, Paxman, Mirlees, Maybach, GM and other engine makes, it is not suprising that most Galas end up dominated by EE, no complaints by me as they sound great.

The Gala was good it was worth the 350 mile round trip (Not as bad as it sounds - as 200+ of that milage was Class 91/Mk4 on East Coast. If I had to drive all that way, or use Northern Rail for that sort of milage, I'd end up going insane).

Good lineup of locomotives at Wansford. But very strange to see 56's alongside Thomas the bloody Tank Engine!
