Hi everyone,

I need help with generating an itinerary in case I get caught up in disruption - can you help?

OK, here goes (gird your loins...)

Saturday 7th September 2024

1006... Advance Single Chorley to Manchester Piccadilly, arrive 1045. Northern changing onto Northern.

1106... Super Off Peak Return Manchester Piccadilly to Euston, changing at Crewe. Northern changing onto WMT.

Sunday 8th September 2024

1545... Super Off Peak Return London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly, changing at Crewe. Arrive Manchester Piccadilly 1903. WMT changing onto Northern.

1948... Advance Single Manchester Piccadilly to Chorley, arrive 2021. Northern changing onto Northern.

Thanks in advance (pun not intended) x

It seems that you have an itinerary already generated / chosen. What exactly are you looking for from us? If you miss your train due to disruption, you can just take the next train as per your ticket conditions.

This forum's ticketing site will generate the exact itinerary as long as you specify only Northern and WMT as operators, if what you are looking for is an itinerary generated by an approved ticketing web site, when perhaps you have bought the tickets individually without a through itinerary.

As well as the forum ticketing site, you could generate your itinerary through FastJP which allows you to specify operators, multiple via points and additional time at change points. It is, I believe, the journey planner behind the Trainsplit/forum ticketing site.

Hi everyone,
Thanks for the advice.

I ended up buying my ticket from the forum site.
I used it to travel TO London Euston but ended up buying an Anytime Single from London Terminals to Manchester Stations because of the disruption on Sunday evening at Euston. I didn't want to be waiting around train stations all night.

Does anyone know if I can get a partial refund on my ticket because the original return of at half 4 from Euston with WMT was cancelled?

If your intended train was cancelled or delayed you should have been able to use your ticket on the next available service without paying for a new ticket.

Did you speak to members of staff at the station, and if so what did they say? Did you check online for advice eg at NRE.co.uk, and if so, what was the advice?

My ticket was a Super Off Peak Return from EUS to MAN valid on West Midland Trains and Northern only.

My intended train of 1545 from Euston to Crewe was cancelled. The next WMT service was the 1645 which ended up being +30mins delayed leaving Euston at 1717 and arrived into Crewe at 1916. The next Northern service from Crewe would have been at 2016, an hour later arriving into Piccadilly at 2015. I wouldn't have arrived back in Chorley until 2140, almost 6 hours after my journey should have commenced.

I bought a new ticket, an Anytime Single from Euston to Manchester, so I could use the direct Avanti service at 1712 which meant I actually arrived back in Chorley at 2019 as I was getting worried I wouldn't be home at a reasonable time or even at all having to go the long-winded way via Crewe and with all the issues I don't think I was being unreasonable.

I did look at National Rail Enquiries but it only mentioned ticket acceptance between Avanti and WMT between London and Birmingham, with no mention of Crewe or Manchester, for that matter.

No, I could not find a member of WMT staff on Platform 8. Instead, I contacted WMT on Twitter/X and showed them my ticket and asked what my options were. They said I could not travel with Avanti and I should get a refund from my point of purchase.

In this case, as the other train was running, they were probably right but I'm not an expert. I probably would have waited, even if I got home later.

Yes if a train in your intended itinerary is cancelled, and you chose not to travel using that ticket, and the ticket remains wholly unused in its entirety, you are entitled to a full refund if it's a single ticket, or a 50% refund if it is a return ticket.

There is an online form which should process this for you.

Thanks. I've tried the form but it's saying I'm not eligible to for a refund because my ticket has been used.

I assume that's because I scanned it to enter Platform 8 at Euston?
