Nearest jointed track to Wigan

I've not been out and about on the trains locally since the pandemic and I'd like to take my neice on the train so she can hear the clickety clack sound but I've forgotten where near here it can be heard.

Any tips appreciated.

With the caveat that I haven't been on it for a while, Formby-Hall Road (in that direction only) was jointed track last time I travelled on it. As was Brunswick-Liverpool Central.

Glad to hear it still exists. I miss the sound of jointed track: a mainstay of even main line travel in the 80s and even the 90s. The sounds of jointed track and other things on the Portsmouth Direct on the Haslemere-Guildford section in particular in the 80s were almost musical: so much so that one could imagine someone composing a 'Commuter Symphony' out of various noises the track made as the train progressed from Haslemere to Guildford. Salisbury to Westbury in the 90s, particularly around Warminster, was similar. Who remembers the very high-frequency (=short joints) jointed track just as the train came into Warminster from the Salisbury direction, for instance?

On that topic: back in those days there was also a 'wind-like' "WOOOOOO...." sound effect on certain sections of track, often accompanying jointed track. Sections where this was particularly prominent include Witley to Milford northbound; around Worplesdon northbound as the line crossed the heaths north of Guildford; and a short section between Warminster and Dilton Marsh at the point the line descends off the chalk onto the plain. Any ideas what caused this?

There‘s a good few miles of jointed track between Bidston and Neston southbound if you can get to the Wirral; added bonus of 150s with opening hopper windows, tables and some nice views.

I always thought that was just flanges rubbing due to poor quality of said track. You certainly used to get it on plenty of Merseyrail (plus some sort of rattle when going over joints which I always assumed was slightly loose fishplates/bolts) and on the Wigan-Southport line.

For anyone who can remember rail journeys stretching back to the 1950s, which era/decade would you say it was most common to hear 'roaring rails', caused by corrugation on the surface of the rails? Was the noise less noticeable when travelling in coaching stock compared with DMUs and EMUs...
