RAIB have published a bulletin into incident at Seaburn station, where cleaner clearing snow from platforms was nearly struck by trainhttp://www.raib.gov.uk/publications/bulletins/bulletins_2011/bulletin02_2011.cfm
Raises serious questions about use of sub contractors on railways & what is concidered to be working on or near the line. As a minimum standard cleaners should have to pass a railway medical & have basic understanding of English before being employed.

Scandal here is the length these companys go to evade their responsibility & ensuring staff are trained & competent to carry out the task, usually 1.25m as that avoids the need for PTS

I wonder if there is a story in a newspaper in a parallel universe where the guy got sacked before the near miss happened?

Surprised?? You've clearly never read the Sunderland Echo!! Not surprising at all! Fairly minor incident though, I wouldn't expect this to make the news.

I'm not a Mackem so would read that sort of thing!

I wouldn't say it is that minor either, sure the report has stills of the CCTV and it was very close (note it was a Northern going through non-stop so would have been travelling near enough to full line speed).
