Was there any reason given?, I imagine local pressure has been a huge influence on this.
Parking at some of the former GNER stations has always been steep. York & Newcastle have always been expensive, but some of the other stations was reasonable until recently, i think somewhere like Durham used to be £4 for the day. If I drive to York, I now use the Car Park behind the signalling centre, or sometimes I drive to Northallerton, which is about £3.50.

Peterbronx is currently £12.50 a day, though there are cheaper weekend rates as well.

I don't normally post on here but I have to defend the NCP car park at Newark Northgate. They are offering a season ticket valid for a month for £80
To me, unless i'm missing something really obvious that's a bargain in these days of costly car parking - the railway station car park opposite the NCP charge £126 a month. By my basic calculations going with NCP will save you £46 a month - not a bad saving if you ask me !!!!
