For a Trainee train driver role.
What tests does the Enhanced standard have that the National Standard doesn’t?

I recently had an assessment day for a TOC that requires the Enhanced benchmark, if I’m unsuccessful with the Enhanced I hope I’ve met the national standard as I’ll be able to apply to another TOC that’s requires the National standard. Also if I failed any of the assessments, do I get to have another attempt?

I believe they are the same tests, just a different ‘pass’ mark. However some TOCs don’t include certain tests, for example the VSE or DFFT. (Maybe others)

If you fail any assessment (psychometric), you have only one more try after 6 months. (Any TOC)

The enhanced assessments include the DFFT (Driver Fault Finding Test), but not necessarily the VSE (the VSE or Visual search Exercise is an online assessment which isn’t part of the actual psychometric assessments but which some have said counts as one of your two strikes if you fail?).

There are also enhanced requirements for some of the other individual assesments with TOCs or FOCs using this standard (such as the Group Bourden). All computer tests are one standard.

Some use enhanced for stage two others only for stage one

It's a mess should be pass or fail rather than worrying about pass standard

Weirdly C2C require a very strong pass on all.tests for depot driver positions whilst others accept less for mainline

I can confirm C2C use enhanced for the computer tests !

This again, comes down to inconsistencies with OPC (although I get that they don’t carry out assessments for all TOCs/FOCs, just most it would seem), whose bread and butter these assessments are after all! I was categorically told by them that there are no enhanced standards for the computer tests.

People have also been told that the VSE is part of the process and thus counts towards the ‘two strike’ rule. I fail to see how this can be the case since the VSE isn’t part of the monitored assessment process. Surely it would be unfair for this to count?

It’s a minefield, and one with nothing to say each TOC even has to adhere to the two strikes and you’re out, process. I think at the very least, the OPC ought to be able to give definitive answers which aren’t specific to who you talk to on the phone on any given day.

Arriva rail London do vse as part of stage 2 not online. It shouldn’t trouble anyone who fails and applies elsewhere that don’t require it. I was ok and got two dmi before the 6 months had elapsed. Furthermore, after I did fail the vse i was encouraged to apply for other operators that didn’t require it by the opc staff member as he confirmed it wouldn’t be a bar.
Saying that I got invited for dmi for another company that requires it without sitting it again. Swings and roundabouts.

No they don’t. No such thing as an enhanced pass mark for the computer tests.
