The nat rail site is hopeless via mobiles, I always default to travel-line or transport direct on my phone. They really ought to have a low graphics version available, at least of the journey planner and live dep/arr.

As MikeW has posted as well, pda.nationalrail.co.uk works brilliantly on any browser (mobile or desktop, not just PDAs!) and is virtually the only way I actually access the core train service info. It's been around for several years, and there was a mobile (WAP) site before that.

I tend to use the PDA site - http://pda.ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/ - even on my PC. Perhaps overly basic, but does the job . Only thing it doesnt do is fares info like the full size journey planner does.

When you click through to the details of a service it should give you fares as well - just tried it with a random journey and it worked.

It will even offer non-standard tickets - for instance, asking for Carlisle to Ulverston via Whitehaven will give the Cumbria Round Robin at £25.00 as the cheapest return ticket.

It comes in a variety of flavours (mobile friendly etc) and is quick and efficient.

I don't think posting this is disallowed in the rules as it's not a forum etc.

Just to prove the point, if you use the above link, then click on Service Bulletins, you'll see exactly what I mean about blue writing on a blue background. :roll:

It is a pity that we don't have someone on here from ATOC who works on the NRE website who can take this criticism on board and get all of the glitches sorted out and get rid of all of silly graphics!

The other day I was waiting in the Weatherspoons pub at Leeds station. The screens in the pub had loads of information about the whereabouts of trains arriving and departing, for example stating at what junction a train was passing. The screen was definitely using a web browser to display the information, is this site available to the public and if so does anyone know the address?

I didn't think I'd start a new topic for this.

On the LDB I know they have got platform numbers for large stations, such as Cardiff, all London Stations etc.

Are they adding these to small terminus stations?

Ebbw Vale Parkway seems to have it and it's a terminus station but really small.

I'd guess that they're planning on doing it for most stations, though I'd have thought it more important, but more difficult, for stations where services can use multiple platforms- rather easy to predict the platform at a single platform station!

Indeed, I have three services in the afternoon between Monday to Friday formed of stock stabled in the Up Yard which can be signalled to use any of the three platforms although normally Platform 1 is used but the fact remains that it could be any of the three.

Yeah, well the station I mentioned is 1 platform and a terminus, so I am not sure why the platform number is on there

I honestly hope the end plan is to do it for all UK Stations.

a lot of stations it is pretty much moot- two platform stations on double track lines without bi-directional signalling being pretty much the mainstay, trains can only (except in very, very circumstances) use a particular platform in a particular direction. Adding platform numbers for those would be easy but pretty pointless (much as with single platform terminii!)
