Napier to Gisborne line to close? NZ

Such a shame when i heard this the other day - it goes through some stunning parts of the country and they always have a steam charter go there for the Art Deco fair too.

I do hope that the freight picks up on the line to keep it open.

that is a spectacular line. I am not surprised it is not economically viable though.

does anyone know if the newplymouth/ stratford to north island main line at taumaranui (dont know its proper name) is open or closed? I drove the road that parallels it and the scenery was terrific.
