Ok, lets have a go at this.
This town doesnt have an NR mainline station anymore. However it does still have a busy operational station with trains running most of the year!!

The nearest NR mainline station used to be a junction, but this ceased to be the case when the branchline to the town in question shut.
The trackbed of the branhline can clearly be seen in places, and is often used by walkers.

Oops, i can tell there are plenty more possible answers, so id better put another clue in, as none of the guesses is the one i was thinking of. Apologies for this.
The town at the other end of this preserved/ miniature railway (not telling you which), does have a mainline railway. However it also doesnt have a mainline station, and is used purely for freight. Freight is not frequent, and is likely to be hauled by one of 3 classes, including 37s.

So, to recap, this town is now linked with 2 other places. An old Junction station on the mainline, and the other end of a miniature/ preserved railway which does have a mainline railway, but is used purely for freight.

As a long shot, I would guess Lechlade. It was on the Witney branch, but I don't see the link to Mr Cameron, unless it is in the Witney election area.
