Mystery train in Zwolle

In the early hours of this morning, I was in my artic truck taking a trailer load of white goods to a distribution centre in Zwolle.

As you come into the city, the road passes over a railway stabling point and I normally look down to see what’s in the depot. This morning, there was a mystery train and I only had a few seconds to glance at it as I passed. They were just unhooking a locomotive that I could not see clearly but nothing I recognised.

I delivered the white goods and came back down the same road thirty minutes later. The consist was still there so I quickly stopped the truck to grab some pictures and go before a police patrol came past as you’re not really supposed to stop there.

Looking down from the bridge, the consist was in DB livery and with Talgo style carriages. Can somebody confirm what it is? Is it one of the new trains for the Amsterdam to Berlin service undergoing some night testing?

I was disappointed to see the bright harsh white interior lighting that is so common on new stock these days. I recently went back to the UK and rode on a GA unit from Harwich. You needed sunglasses to cope with the lighting in those units.

It is indeed a Talgo - ICE-L, which is going to be used on the Amsterdam-Berlin route.

ICE L is a long-distance loco-hauled push-pull train which is being manufactured by the Spanish company Talgo for the German train operator DB Fernverkehr and is scheduled to commence operation from 2025.[2] The name of the train was changed in 2021 from its previous working title ECx,[3] with the L standing for low-floor entry

I guess "cool white" is the standard for LED bulbs. Retail sellers usually sell "warm white" ones at the same price. No idea what the situation is like in commercial specialist buying.

De nieuwe ICE L heeft zondag 2 februari zijn eerste meters gemaakt op Nederlandse bodem. De trein, gebouwd door de Spaanse fabrikant Talgo, arriveerde voor de eerste toelatingstesten. De verwachting is dat de ICE L op zijn vroegst in december 2025 – maar waarschijnlijk later – in de dienstregeling wordt opgenomen…

i.e first runs in NL were 2nd Feb, and earliest date into service Dec ‘25, but probably later.

Testing being carried out in Netherlands for acceptance with RailAdventure as the train operator. They have hired a Vectron to facilitate the testing process.

Thanks for all the info. Ahh, the loco was a Vectron then. I just didn’t recognise it as one. I didn’t see anything that resembled a catering vehicle. Will there be any catering on the new services?
