Mystery Tie

About 1990 I purchased the tie pictured from Collectors Corner. The staff there did not know of its origin and since then it's been a mystery. Theres been a few on eBay over the years but with no origin given. Can any members identify it ?image.jpeg

Looking at "British Rail 1948-78 A Journey by Design" (Brian Haresnape, published by Ian Allan 1979) only plain ties are being worn by BR staff working in stations and on trains. I wonder if this is perhaps a sports association or other staff club tie?

Indeed,there was a whole flourish of different ties appearing from the mid 80s. A friend some years ago suggested it was either a sports or promotional tie but he was just guessing.
