mystery object

Can someone please help me identify this object, made of cast iron with three letters APL on the underside. Found next to a derelict rail station.

I don't have any ideas forthcoming, but can you give us an idea of dimensions/scale?

Maybe part of a ground frame or signalbox lever?

The dimensions are 8.5" height, width 10" at top 13" at bottom, 1" thick. It has two small bolt holes at bottom left & right, and one large hole in bottom centre, with three grooves at top.

Look like teeth to engage a worm or another similar bracket?
