My very first trip on the WCML

Early Monday morning service, the 06:20 from Euston as far as Birmingham. Amazing fare (Standard) £5.30 with Railcard.
Definitely a Virgin service. Will it be a Pendolino.
Is it a crowded service or fairly empty?
Travelling onward with Cross Country. Does the fact I am booked into Coach F indicate a proper train as opposed to a 3/4 car DMU

I take it you have a reserved seat in coach F? As far as I know coach F & U on Pendolinos are unreserved so you may find it is a Voyager. Someone with more knowledge than me will be able to answer.

Sorry mate, just editing this, you mean coach F on the Cross Country service don't you. Apologies. You may want to advise which Cross Country service it is.

Its booked to be a Cross Country Voyager and with your seat being in coach F it should be a Class 221.

It's definitely a VT at 0620, not a LM. That early in the morning and against the flow there will probably be one passenger and his dog on there.

RTT appears to show it as a Pendolino.

The lowest tier of VT Advance on that route is £8, which with a Railcard indeed gives £5.30.

Because evem though it's heading toward Scotland, it will be going via Birmingham. This is to help signallers make sure it's not sent the wrong way.

they can be surprisingly busy - I often use the early VT's north from MK. The 06:XX to Glasgow seems very popular

Yep, 10:03 Birmingham - Leeds is booked to be a 221, so five carriages, which in the main is, sadly, as close as Crosscountry get to running "proper trains" (excepting the small number of HSTs).

Although, both the 4-car 220s and 5-car 221s have a coach F (the driving vehicle which was formerly the quiet coach). It's Coach B which is missing on the 4-car trains compared to the 5-car ones.

It will not in any way be empty, it will be well patronised but not packed.
