Lets start off with a Pic, of the first HST ive ever seen!

Also< on my train from lincoln to nottingham, There where three 153's put together in a row. So much for needing more single units then! should have left them as 155's

I also have a question aabout penelty fare stations, If you are at somwhere like worksop (ticket office but no barriers) if your train arrives at the station whilst you are queueing, is it acceptable to buy a ticket on the train. (as you havent really had an oppotunity to pay) or do you have to wait and miss your train?

It depends on how much time you allowed at the station to buy your ticket. If you turn up 1 minute before the train leaves then most probably you'd get a Penalty Fare. TOCs have certain time limits on how long you have to wait at a ticket office.

As for Worksop, it isn't in a penalty fare zone so you could buy on board but would be limited to undiscounted singles and returns (unless the wait at the ticket office was too long).

Thanks for caring But i dont think ive been around here long enough to start babbling out my mind gunk, im not sure how it would be received, and if somone would just be like "get real, life isnt fair" However you all seem pretty friendly so far, and i dont think thats likely to happen. If anyone has problems, feel free to talk to me though

I have seen pictures of such workings before and have to agree, I have thought the same thing - putting 2 or more 153's together seems pointless as they are just going back as they were!

sorry about the vagueness, but because it was such a broard thread, I couldnt think of a good name.

The pic was taken with an iphone, using the default camera settings, whats why its pretty poor, so any advice to improve my pics is appreciated. However I would love to go do that shot with a good camera! ill try uploadng to a different host(not facebook) and see if it is any better there, as i used facebook mobile, so there was proabably some compression.

I completely agree with that. I've taken some excellent photographs on mine, which are beyond the standards of some basic compacts.

My photography skills are pretty poor, but we all have to start somewhere. The most basic advice, looking at the picture above would not be to shoot directly into the sun. Get the light behind you and use it to your advantage.

I'm not that great with photography either. I try to get some shots every now and again, but never anything special!
The Iphone camera has done a great job for me so far. And as you said, it does indeed better some cameras themselves!

My advice. Don't attempt serious photography with an iPhone. The clue is in the name. It's not an iCamera.

Even a cheap digital compact will be more functional than the camera on an iPhone.

I agree about the over-priced part, and to some extent, the over-hyped bit as well. My one did set me back a bit, though so far, I've been impressed.
For photos themselves, I tend to use a Cannon Camera.

I would essentially agree with the point about not attempting to use an iPhone for serious photography. I have a Nikon compact for that, but for a quick shot when you're out an about, the iPhone camera does the job.

To be honest, a lot more people seem to be buying Blackberry's now. The Iphone is just too much money. I bought mine on PAYG as the contract prices are through the roof. For some contracts, Orange are charging £75 a month!
Who can afford that?

Never have liked the IPhone, but mainly because the screen is too small for touch screen. I always ended up hitting the wrong buttons (if thats what you call them).

If I was to have one of these smart phones, then it would be a blackberry. Not bad keypad, and the internet is usually pretty good (although i believe the internet is meant to be better on the iphones).

Only problem with the blackberry (certainly the one i used to have), is when using it as a camcorder, the sound is rubbish when playing back. Apart from that, very good phones.

I have no need for these types of phones though. Id never use it as a camera or a camcorder, as its always better to get something designed specifically for that job. The internet was handy, but considering i always take my laptop around with me, i can usually do without internet on my phone.
So a bog standard phone which enables me to call and text will suffice.

My phone is an old Nokia 6230i mobile phone, I have no need for an ipod phone. My phone does have a camera in the back of it but it is noy very good which is why a have a Panasonic Digitl Camera designed for taking good photos.

I only buy a phone or laptop if I'm going to need it for work. I'm not one of those people who tries to keep up with all the latest gadgets, but I travel a fair bit as part of my job and the new gadgets tend to be the best for running business.

Get the sun behind you mate is a good start,if you are wanting just a picture

I've always found camera phones absoutely useless. To be honest when I buy a new camera I don't look for one that can make phone calls. Similarly I don't expect my phone to take good pictures. I don't expect my computer to wash my clothes and my car is not much good at cooking my dinner either. There was a time when we relied on specific tools for specific jobs.

This discussion about phone cameras is quite interesting.

Maybe it needs to be moved to the photography section or a mod could rename the title to make it more relevant to the matter being discussed, as long as yew doesn't mind.

I have a Nokia N900, for which I can download alternative camera apps, one of which, Fcamera, saves the image as a 10 Mb raw .dng file for postprocessing later.

While most would probably agree that a £140 Kodak will give much better results than an iPhone, calling the iPhone a piece of crap is downright stupid.

I'm an avid techno-geek. I use a Blackberry bold for my communications, I went through my touch screen phase many moons before the iphone and started using blackberry nearly six years ago.

A decent priced camera that really delivers and isn't as bulky as a full DSLR is the Fujifilm S1900. I bought mine last year for about £150, and used it for a lot of gig photos, it's very handy when you're in the photo pit to have something you can throw around corners and hold up to the stage without your arms giving out. Conversely it's worked amazingly at the back with an 18x zoom built it to get across crowd shots.

Still need to try snapping trains with it though! I'm sure it'll handle even the fastest of passing trains well enough though, lots of manual settings to fiddle with

Mac OS X Snow Leapard looks pretty good.
