since recieving a train set for christmas (letter got to santa:roll, ive slowly been ading stuff to it:

hornby local goods train set (christmas present)

hornby class 121 w55027 (dcc ready)
assortment of hornby wagons
lots of hornby track
a bachman blue mea wagon
bachman class 220008 "welsh dragon 3 car" set and track

Seen a nice one in Ian Allan shop, but it was large scale and about £1,200

Well part of a real train.. for that elusive 37/4 you had 0.05 miles behind when you were three* it'd cost about 40k to buy, about 100k to restore and return to use.. extra 30k for OTMR for mainline running and god knows what else to keep it maintained!



*this is used as an example of the current state of preservation with too many locos being saved by individuals for their own silly reasons, not because it was a particularily decent engine/celebrity

Get it fitted out as a living room with tele etc and then maybe I'll get me in laws on a bloddy train!

The 121 is a beautiful model. I'm currently in the progress (still) of building a plastic Dapol model 121. I doub't it's gonna get finished anytime soon though.

You going to set up a permanent layout with scenery and everything?

Ive got two 121s now, one in Blue and One in Brown and Cream livery, the later is being repainted over easter, im sure people can guess what livery its going into!!

Gizzy, that Dapol Kit isnt a 121, its a Railbus, similar to the little one at the NNR

i will get around to setting out a permanent layout one day, but i have limited space at the moment, plus i have a ban on buying any more stuff for it until we move.
was thinking about what kind of layout to do, a couple of options would be an out and back, or a big loop but that will be a while away yet (keep on dreaming lad keep on dreaming).

Try drawing out some plans before you start them. Maybe get a hold of some Quail maps and try to rebuild one of your favourite lines/areas? (Alot harder than it looks).
If you're worried about making a permanent layout then try making something on a fold up baseboard. Or even starting to experiment with scenery by making a layout in a suitcase!

update time,

anyhow beat the ban:roll:

now including a gronk No 3873 in LMS livery, and a few wagons and crane, been thinking about what to do and what layout to go for and ive come up with an idea:???:?

its going to be a TMD for a network rail home fleet (but as you have not seen before) will paint some loco's + wagons, but not sure if i should do the bubble and voyager yet what would you suggest?, voyager in nr yellow :grin: and renumbered 920xxx? lol

as for the layout i think i will go for the same layout as bedford cauldwell walk but only 5-6 road's?

two roads uncovered, two covered, 1/2 uncovered?

any views or comments/suggestions welcome as before.

I used to have a layout which occupied an entire room on two levels.My Grandad built it,and I inherited it..He had nearly 300 locos,nearly 800 coaches and 600 wagons,plus a load of outdoor stuff he had amassed over 40 years.All the "00" stuff was all Hornby Dublo/Triang/Wrenn /Dapol/Mainline,a good mix,plus the tour de force was the Kings Cross replica(not at all to scale,but as a five year old i loved it!) smack in the middle of the room.As I got older i added Warships,Westerns,peaks,47,50,HST and several kit builds,namely Clan(mini Britannia) standard 4,5,Britannias,Falcon,Kestrel etc..it got to the point where we could have a name your year day!!

Sadly,due to debts and in fighting,I have none of it left..and I so miss it.I am going to have some model engines again,but when I think what I dfid have..damn

Bratchell models do a 319/1 and soon 319/0 kit if your interested. Beware though you have to supply:-

A motor (or two, I got one Black Beetle but may have to fit another if it is too heavy)
seats (I got mine from DC Kits (321 4-car seat pack))
A pantograph (Hurst models do a Brecknell Willis and a Stones Faiveley)
A TE Tank (the chassis is a generic AC unit based on 321s and 317s)
4 shoe beams and shoe fuses (if you want too be dead acurate)
Weight (for the coaches, I used straight brackets from wilkos)
Plasticard (for a few little bits)
A sharp knife
Plastic glue (and super glue for the weight)
A file

My first 319/3 is half complete at the mo, DTS(A) and PMS (minus pan) are complete. Pics may be forthcoming when I can get some.

EDIT: They do a 317/2 aswell and there is a place that does a conversion pack for the 317/1
