My layout plans

Hi there. I’m hoping to make a model layout of Oxenholme Lake District. I’m not exactly sure where to start off in terms of planning it. I want to make oxenholme as it’s close to where I live and somewhere I visit frequently. I currently have a Bachman Class 221 which is brand new that I’m hoping to get repainted into avanti livery. I also have a Hornby Class 802/2 in TransPennine Express Livery. I’m going to preorder the climate pendolino and rake of coaches to go with it and hope to find a pride and normal avanti pendolino for sale somewhere. The Bachman Class 350 in TPE livery is also quite tempting to preorder but I’m unsure if it would be an odd addition. If anyone could give me advice on how to make oxenholme station and the tracks around it I would be very appreciative. Thank you.

That’s certainly a great choice of location. I spent many hours watching classes 86/87/90 and more through there as a youngster.

I think the first step is to consider how much space you have available and work out what track you can fit in it.

I also wouldn’t advise acquiring lots of rolling stock until you’ve worked out what you can fit on the layout and also where you’re going to store it all (speaking from experience here!).

I appreciate it! I will figure out what space I have. I currently have very very little track that’s old and not very good so I would have to buy all the track I need. I worry if I don’t buy rolling stock now it will sell out and won’t be produced again so I won’t be able to have it.

The WCML is always going to be a popular location for modellers so I don’t think you’ll encounter too many issues with getting hold of models.
