Good evening everyone, l am new to this forum and pleased to be part of it.

With the amount of Class 319 units available just now, I was wondering how feasible it would be for me to procure two of them, refurbish them to Pullman standard and run them as an open access operator on the Southeastern Mainline?

My operation would consist of two peak services AM and PM serving Ramsgate, Canterbury, Ashford, Tonbridge and London.

Also Sunday pleasure trips when no works are going on.

This may sound like a pipe dream to most people but I have, in the past had no problems in getting investment for my smaller businesses.

Just to be sure, I am not asking anyone on here for investments.

Must be school holidays again................

Not a chance of it happening - suggest you read the thread on the Alliance Rail Southampton-Waterloo bid and the reasons for its rejection.

If the new SE franchise gets express/fast trains on the SEML anyway then this is a non-starter.

not sure if this is a joke. 319 pullman standard would surely not be possible or well received. The ride quality in the motor coaches is awful for a start. You'd be better off purchasing some mk3s or mk4s when they go and spot hire them out..... with locos of course.

How likely?

About as likely as Roy Chubby Brown winning slimmer of the year and a race relations award in the same week.

Most unlikely to be viable for numerous reasons

319s are ratty suburban units and no matter how luxuriously furnished will still be rattle traps with a poor ride.
It seems very unlikely that any spare paths will be available.
The door and window layout is not Pullman like, and altering this would be hugely costly, probably requiring network rail approval.
Running an open access train operator is hugely costly and complicated, I suspect that many more have failed than have succeeded.
A Pullman service implies a full restaurant, where is the kitchen to go, is there enough electricity for large scale electric cooking.

Any of the above could be worked around given enough money, effort and patience, but in total I feel that these objections render the idea a non starter.

Probably also politically unacceptable to run a luxury train on a busy commuter route, there is enough moaning about first class, now that MPs cant use it for free.

And as for some chancer buying them and running them on NR metals as a commercial venture?

Why mess about with a 319 pullman? Why not go the whole hog and buy a couple of pacers, gold plate them and then run them on the route of the orient express?

Now this is an idea, eating your silver service while the smell of diesel lingers through the corridor connection and a fine mist of rain finds it way through the well fitting doors..... Would you be so kind as to pass me the Chablais before it bounces off the table.....
