One suggestion i have although i probably have more chance on owning a Bentley than seeing that ever happening.

Reform them into 3 cars and send to scotrail to replace 318/320 while the trailers can mouth to southeastern to reform some 465 into 5 car and some 466 into 4 cars, However with that move that would result on fitting a low emission toilet as one already exist on the trailer cars.

Class 466s would struggle with 4 Cars unless the non-motored driving car would become motored!

they can order more 385s though...
Not sure if it's changed but the unions absoluteley despise those trains, the cab windows are so tiny, so there may be some friction there. Other possible reason maybe some adverse economic impact in the next several years as well.
But overall, you are right, that is very likley.

If you are going to get rid of the TOSL (Trailer Open Standard Lavatory), where is the compressor going to go as that is fitted to this vehicle as well...
The PTOSL (Pantograph Trailer Open Standard Lavatory) cant go as there would lose the pantograph...

Why? 318/320 are ancient but the 365s really aren’t much less ancient! When the current Argyle fleet go I’m sure they’ll be replaced by brand new trains, either that or 380s displaced from Paisleys by brand new trains.

Why not just take on some of the 350/2 units from the West Mids franchise, or the Electrostars from Stanstead Express...?

ScotRail did say that they ordered some extra class 385 sets but it was cancelled.

It was reported as an option for a further ten units on top of the first order. So it wasn’t like the option was ever taken up. Abellio stated that it was conditional on them receiving a franchise extension.

In any case, those ten units would not have been used to replace Class 318/320 units.

Do think the 365s should of been kept with Scotrail .
There were only 10 of them, not much point keeping when 385s were always planned and are a much larger fleet, if more EMUs were needed the option for extra 385s could have been taken up.

365s as a 318/320 supplement wouldn't work, let alone if it was to replace them.

The big question is, why would you need to replace recently fully PRM and traction refurbished 75mph geared trains that ScotRail have been maintaining and running smoothly for the past 30 years on routes that they were purpose built for, in favour of a train that isn't geared for the runs the 318/320s do, has less capacity, less standing room, less accessibility, and in dire need of a drastic refurb to get them up to scratch as well as the lengthy conversion training for all train and depot staff?

Is it for the sake of the 5 year difference in age? Or is it a case that the numbers stack up nicely on paper irrespective of what's required?

IMO, it is obvious that they would do more harm than good. It might look nice on paper, but the reality is different.

385s aren't suitable replacements for the 318/320s as their traction specs mean that they overheat on metro style services. They are unable to, for example, run more than a handful of Cathcart Circle services (ex 314 runs) without doing a longer higher speed run to Edinburgh, Lanark, and Wemyss Bay because of this, and they only serve these routes because ScotRail needed rid of the 314s pronto without a full scale Glasgow EMU replacement. The 380s also have this issue so that rules them out (as I imagine the 350s would as well?).

Well the 365 have also been fully PRM not too long ago and look where most of them are at now. If someone manage to re geared a 100mph class 458 to 75 im pretty sure it could be done to the 365s, Not too sure how it accelerate compared to the 318/320.

Possibly, considering newish units such as class 350/2, 379, 458 and 707 are being replaced by brand new ones

In the end i could be wrong but who knows, Its the 21st century, anything is possible these days.

they can order more 385s though...
They wont fit on all platforms that's served by 318/320
