Mods, feel free to move as not sure where this best put,
I managed to have my first run with WCML MU speeds, on the return leg of a Euston-Liverpool trip, as the outward train didnt have the DAS system set up, so we were limited to 110mph, which was disappointing and then thought, might not achieve my goal that day of experiencing WCMl MU speeds. On the return the train, the DAS system was running so was able to run at MU speeds.
The train left Liverpool on time, and after Runcorn stop we accelerated well as we headed to Weaver Junction and the start of MU speeds, once past Weaver junction speed climbed to brief 112mph, before checked for a late Liverpool-Birmingham LNWR stopping service, which we followed to Crewe, so no more MU speeds till after Crewe, which we left 2 mins late This gave driver impetus to put foot down, which he did as up Madeley bank we hit 119 mph briefly, and then were running hard to MU speeds, with 114 mph through Lichfield-Tamworth, then after Nuneaton another 118-119mph section, which again brief, then after Rugby more 115 mph sections, till after Roade where there was more 119mph running to Milton Keynes, then after stopping there we accelerated to 118mph passing through Bletchley, with 119mph till end of this section to trying, then more 114 mph till after Watford Jct, where final 119mph was run to Wembley area, with punctual arrival in Euston.
On arrival Euston i got talking to the driver which was very interesting, as I learnt that to run at MU speeds the DAS needs to be downloaded so can run MU speeds, but that once set up he Then didnt use it as it would have led to speeding and speeds all over the place, so he uses his route knowledge instead to drive professionally, and within speed limits, whilst getting the best of the unit, and think other drivers do exactly the same as DAS isn’t fit or purpose, and more just a paper ticking exercise, not needed, as he said when he drove for other TOC’s with MU speeds he didnt have DAS the.
The reason not give date or time of train, is because driver gave honest opinion of DAS system and did not want comeback on him for expressing honest opinions, and my speeds were taken on Iphone speed app, so not totally accurate, as driver said did 125mph several times but recorded 122mph once briefly.
