Large garda presence as gang boss 'Fat' Andy Connors buried in €28k gold-plated coffin

There was a heavy garda presence today at the funeral of Traveller 'Fat' Andy Connors, who was shot dead in front of his wife and children in Saggart, west Dublin on Tuesday of last week.

At mass in the Church of the Nativity of the Blesses Virgin Mary parish priest Fr Enda Cunningham told the mourners that the Connors family wanted no retaliation for his death, or to see another family endure the pain they were going through.

Before the funeral mass began, members of the Connors family opened the ornate gold casket at the altar to say one last goodbye to him.

The remains of the well-known burglary gang boss were brought from his home in nearby Blessington Road to the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary for the removal ceremony, which began shortly after 7pm last night....

Some of the comments brought a smile to my face. Don't feel any sympathy for him. He and his 'friends' have been terrorising remote farming communities for years.

Being guarded at present. Yer man was buried wearing €100,000 of jewellry (including a €40,000 Rolex watch). Waiting for a huge marble edifice to be placed on top of the grave. Would have been better with a caravan on it. Would have taken years to shift it!

Am waiting to see if the local fire brigade head off to his gaffe (it's a couple of miles from me). It's supposed to be a traveller tradition to burn down the house or caravan if someone has died in it. His is a €3.5 million mansion with a twenty pitch halting site in the back garden. Apparently when the Gardai turned up they found top of the range fixtures and fittings in the house, but little sign of anyone living in there on a full time basis. Apparently he lived most of the time in a caravan on his back garden halting site. He and his extended family were a very nasty and vicious gang of criminals, who have been under the watch of the Gardai and CAB for a number of years. None of your dodgy tarmac or guttering jobs. He was the head of a highly organised gang of ruthless criminals, who would think nothing of threatening to kill children of any age, if it would get them what they want during the course of a burglary. Most of his worth is believed to be from robberies, not only here, but the UK as well.
