Having been bought the damn thing by my mother at the age of 8 - to broaden my musical appreciation - The Sorcerer's Apprentice (Paul Dukas) pops into my head at odd times, 48 years later.

The first pop record I was bought was either "I Remember You" (Frank Ifield) or "Telstar" (The Tornadoes) neither of which have stuck in my head.

Nice, I remember those two songs well, and they were played all the time on the radio around 1962-ish, but like you I have never had any trouble with them stuck in my head for days.

However, I had a tune going around in my brain all last week and I had no idea what it was - that is until last Sunday morning, when I suddenly realised it was the New Zealand national anthem.

How mental is that? And I couldnt manage a note of it now only a few days later, because I havent a clue how it goes.

Subliminal or what?
