Music Magpie- anyone used them?

I'm finally getting rid of crates of CDs that are gathering dust in the loft. They are now all ripped to various mobile devices and triple backed up. I've seen Music Magpie advertised, I'd like to get a few quid for the pile of discs. Has anyone had experience dealing with them?

I’m not a lawyer and am happy to be corrected however be aware of the potential legal implications of selling the originals of any music you have ripped. You’d also be [legally] expected to also delete any copies you may hold.

I doubt anyone anywhere could prove it either way. The law has never really moved on from the days of people taping stuff off CDs.

You might for some CDs they won't take them for anything (the sort which tend to be found in Poundland for £1). Some might be pennies (but I guess 5p is better than nothing).

Keep an eye out if you have anything rare which could be worth something.

If I get a tenner for the lot I'll be happy. I just can't landfill music.

It didn't seem worth the hassle of finding a box to send them off in, so I gave the lot to the charity shop. According to the gift-aid statement they made about £30 so that's not too bad.

Anything they offer you more than a quid for, you'll be better off selling it yourself on Ebay- if it's collectable or rare, the buyers will already be searching for it... Music Magpie sell their rarer items on via Amazon, you may as well cut out the middleman.

It all depends on what type of music it is. If it is mostly the type of "pop" that gets (or was) played regularly on UK radio, you might as well give it to charity. If it is more specialised, e.g. blues, country, prog., etc, then you might get a couple of pounds per CD if you offer it to a specialised second hand dealer, or try to sell it on ebay.

I've used them, but for my old phones and while it gave me a bit of cash for something that was otherwise useless clutter, they were pretty ruthless with the deductions for wear and tear.

Have you had a look at discogs.com? I've only ever used them to buy, in an attempt to replace some CDs that I lost in a house move, but my experience was positive. It might take you a bit longer to get rid of them all by selling them individually, but you may get more money for them.
