I'm ok with that, I don't see it as inaccurate, outdated or insulting. Just observational. Though I know there is of course a percentage of football fans who are not alcoholic, testerone-charged tattooed loonies, and that's cool.

Whether or not you see it as insulting isn't really the issue, as it was you who posted it. I know not everyone likes football, just as not everyone likes stamp-collecting or building model railways. There are some interests that I just don't get, but I don't have a negative view of those who do. Suggesting that all or most football fans are violent alcoholics is a bit like saying that all or most bus or train enthusiasts are socially inept loners:- it is an outdated stereotype, regardless of what you might think.

On the topic of Ale Trains, I’m not sure it’s been an official thing on this route for many, many years (if ever?).

I think word of mouth just has its own momentum: people know there are good pubs at all the stops from Stalybridge to Huddersfield, so they go for a day out, supported by the other (pub crawl) website.

Was it ever officialised in some way?

(edited to make clear I’m talking about Rail and Ale, not just the pub crawl part, which does have a website, as mentioned above)

On the topic of Ale Trains, I’m not sure it’s been an official thing on this route for many, many years (if ever?).

It was never an "on train" thing on this route, always just the Ale Trail. There will be archived threads discussing some of the behaviour issues caused by a minority of participants. Perhaps an "Ale Train" of the sort that used to do the music trains on the Penistone Line, would make those issues less of a problem?
