Murray's ABC

This Murray's ABC pocket timetable has been languishing in my railwayana for many years. I've not seen another copy of it anywhere and I can't remember how it came into my hands.

Valid between 7th November-4th December 1966, in amongst all the adverts, it shows the fares and timetables between Glasgow and various destinations. The coupon insurance ticket in the last picture is interesting - I do wonder whether anyone was ever able to successfully claim on it.

If anyone out there collects old timetables I am happy to let it go for just the postage (or collect from Northampton).

That reminds me very much of the privately-printed and published Italian all-line and regional timetables that used to be produced twice a year until well into the 21st century. The most well-known was the Pozzorario - produced by a company called Pozzo - but other versions were also available. Presumably the advertising revenue covered a fair chunk of the production costs and enabled the books to be produced and sold at a lower price than the official FS version.

I may have had a companion volume which had the bus services from Glasgow in comparable style at the same era, shown alphabetically by each town/village. Not the city buses, and all the rest had been long run by one organisation although under different brands.

David & Charles produced a reprint of the July 1923 ABC Guide (to complement their reproductions of various Bradshaws).

I picked up my copy at a charity shop for £3.
