The two can fit together and complement each other effectively; they aren't mutually exclusive.

Indeed but I presume you get my meaning. In the press far right terrorists tend to get written off as mentally ill loners as opposed to people who follow a dangerous ideology. Why did everyone instantly assume the shooter was Muslim? Because we have been led to believe by the right wing media that most terrorists are Muslim, the same right wing media that possibly influenced the shooter.

Would you like to expand on that? The last three events in France were carried out by people of the religion of peace and tolerance. The bloke who carried out the latest in Munich was of Iranian origin ergo another one of the religion of peace and tolerance. Why are you in denial? The people who killed on London's tube and bus network a few years ago were of......Oh never mind, it's all a right wing stitch-up.
No doubt the two men of "middle eastern appearance" who had a go at an off duty airman outside RAF station Marham were really agent provocateurs from MI6.

I see what you are saying but the fact that the chap in Munich was of partial Iranian origin has little to do with it by the looks of things. It seems he was a right winger of the more traditional European sort with little or no connection to Islam. What is it that you think I am denial of?

If I can expand further, the chap in Nice never went to the Mosque and received treatment for drug and alcohol addiction and other mental health issues but apparently it counts as an attack by a Muslim and not a loner with issues.

If I am wrong then I am wrong and I'll admit it. Apologies if what I said offended anyone.

I think the moral of the story is that if you're mentally ill, make sure you're not also from a part of the world where Islam is the dominant faith. Understandably when news of this incident first broke, the media and the public at large assumed that radical Islam had a role, right up to tales of multiple attackers and shouts of "Allahu Akbar", both of which turned out to be spurious.

Just goes to show that especially in these fear-driven times, the lies and falsehoods are halfway around the world before the truth has got its shoes on. I just hope that following this event and indeed the atrocity in Nice, the mentally ill don't suffer an undeserved backlash- just as I hope that Muslims or indeed other Middle-Easterners don't suffer either.

I'm not a fan of Islam (or any religion, but there's another thread on religion) but it's not right to tar all Muslims with the same brush; let's not forget that ISIL have killed plenty of muslims and people who have killed on their behalf have not always proven to be model Muslims.

Perhaps it should be remembered though, the eye witness that made this particular claim was a female dressed in Muslim attire, I think that the 'public at large' would not be unfair if they had assumed 'radical Islam' had a role

Even further than that, I'd say the overwhelming majority of people killed by ISIS were Muslims.

I think they would be unfair. Just assuming any attack must be radicalised Muslims is quite discriminatory. God alone knows what that particular woman was thinking.

You will note the very first word of the partial quote of my previous post.

Given recent events "radical Islam" is the first port of call with events such as this. However even those events that have been attributed to "radical Islam" (Orlando, Nice) should not be viewed solely through that prism, given the often contradictory situations of the perpetrators.

It must be remembered that Iran is a stronghold of the Shia version of Islam and are the sworn enemy of ISIL, whose beliefs form the Wahaabist version of Sunni Islam.

I remembered that and don't see what it has to do with what happened in Munich. You are just bringing Islam in to something that had nothing to do with Islam.

I was just making a statement of fact as the person who was responsible for the deaths in Munich was of Iranian descent and as such, would have been btought up in the faith of Shia Islam. Where was he born and at what age was he when he arrived in Germany?

So it appears that the gun was restored to work again. The gun was bought on a hidden part of the Internet. He went to Winnenden where in 2009 someone killed 15 persons. He took pictures; on his PC Breivik's manifest was found. He planned his attck for more than 1 year and had mental health problems.

Just look at any recent American school shootings to show that you don't have to be a mentally ill Muslim to commit terrible acts. His religion doesn't seem to have much bearing here - I can't think of any radical Muslims who find anything good to say about Breivik aside from, morbidly, body count.

It must be remembered that Iran is a stronghold of the Shia version of Islam and are the sworn enemy of ISIL, whose beliefs form the Wahaabist version of Sunni Islam.
The only relevance I can see from his religion in this case is that ISIL would not claim responsibility for an atrocity a Shia has committed.

There are Christians in Iran and if he's born in Germany, that's make shim German. I'm half Irish but being born in England, I consider myself to be more English than Irish.

Substitute "half Polish" for "half Irish" and you have my situation. I was born in Manchester in 1945 and I too consider myself as 100% English. I am a Catholic (that word used in the tense meaning "universal")

Officially, the Armenian Apostolic Church in Iran is by far the largest sect of Christianity there.

I think that goes without saying that ISIL would use the word "apostate" to describe the followers of the Shia version of Islam.
