MTR South Island Line

The Southern District in Hong Kong is the most beautiful part within the Hong Kong Island and it is famous for its seafood (Along with Sai Kung). The South Island Line started its service at late December in 2016. Here is my recent trip on this service.

I boarded the train at Lei Tung and the first photo is the train entering the platform of South Horizons. Then I went to the another side that is heading to Admiralty.

The services on this line uses a 3-car train set with fully automatic controls.
The blue light is on and it is ready to go!

The train leaves the tunnel and onto the bridge. The scenery of Aberdeen Harbour is beautiful. Those fishing boats are lovely.


The following pics are just the tracks that the train runs.

The train reaches Wong Chuk Hang, and the depot is just a short distance away.


After Ocean Park, the train enter the tunnel and arrives at Admiralty.


And then I took the Island line back home. OT Admiralty station looks better then before. It has been refurbished.

I personally loved those trains. There is no cabs. ( In fact the panel is stored in a "cupboard" and it can be taken out when needed.) And you can see the front view directly from the front. This is the only line in the MTR got design like that. Even the Disney line got cab and you cannot really see clearly from the front. I love this service

I use it every day and the passenger 'management' in Admiralty is a pain with staff members literally shouting over a PA system competing with the relentless automated announcements and why the hell is that red barrier there at the bottom of the escalator directing you to the incredibly crowded P5 when it is much more easy to walk along P6 to get to a door. Evening peak train arrives and with all the passenger getting off crossing swords with those waiting to board is like a rugby scrum. Only ever used P6 once there. Still faster than the diminishing bus services though which basically forces people to use it or be crammed into an iron maiden cunningly disguised as a number 90 bus.

Now this is open can you still get that scenic bus route that goes right up over the hill rather than using the tunnel (sorry forget its number)

Yep, that (number 6) goes to Stanley whereas the MTR goes to Ap Lei Chau Island. You can pick up some buses at stops near Ocean Park Station and miss out the tunnel traffic. Primarily only routes to the south west of HK Island have been altered so far.
