Hi guys,

In preparing for the DMI;

I am researching into MTR corporation and the crossrail project

Preparing for questions about myself, why I want the job, what I can bring to the table as a driver, what I know about the role etc

MMI style answers to questions based on scenarios

Can anybody who has sat the process add anything I may be missing from the list that could possibly come up on the interview?

As always, any help or direction is greatly appreciated

I applied last year October but had to reschedule my first assessment so went further down the pecking order. My MMI and cpu tests were on the 12th July and have since been told I will receive a date for the MMI sometime in August.. so I'm just waiting - agonisingly!

I thought Drazky left the thread and deleted all his comments.. was a bit gutted as he contributed so much to this thread. I'll see if I can find him.. thanks for the heads up!

Hi SheikG

I had my DMI a couple months back. It started with a tell me about yourself from school to present day including hobbies. Then what I knew about MTR corporation and crossrail project. What I was thought were the skills required to be a train driver, do I possess them skills examples. Why I was changing jobs and the career change. Who I thought a driver would have to have contact with and then three questions from the MMI, I reckon those questions may be depended on the person they see but mine was delivering excellent customer service, a time I've followed rules and procedures and a role I've done similar to train driver. My experience was different to some that I had read before so try an prepare for everyone seems to have a slightly different experience. Good luck

Thank you SheikG for your good comment in regards of my contributions!

Months ago I posted a Tread"" Big apology" where I had said what I wanted to say.

My last comment on this forum will be that MTR Crossrail is one of the best thing could ever happen to anyone in professional and personal aspect!

For me it was something more than a job and career!

I would like to wish everyone a great success in this amazing and truly unique project!

Hello everyone! First time poster here but been checking this forum out for quite a while now.

I've been lucky enough to get through all the stages (thanks to everyone who shared valueable guidance and tips) and offered a start date early next year, medical is booked later this year. My question is, how long after the medical will the actual contract be sent out, assumming everything goes well with my health etc..?

Cheers!

Hi everyone,

For those who have signed their contracts and things, at what point did you receive it i.e how many months before the start date and was it before the medical?

Good luck to those going through their assessments!

Thanks

Hi guys,

So I've just received an email today to say I was unsuccessful at the DMI, I can't begin to explain how gutted I am. Especially when every question asked on the day were questions I was prepared for and spent a good while preparing for.

Just wanna thank Peds82, sfxdude and drazky personally for all the help I received as well as all others who have contributed to this thread. Wish you boys the best of luck with your careers.

Can anybody elaborate on this 6 months rule? As I've passed all the tests and failed at DMI stage, do I need to wait 6 months to be able to apply for another vacancy with another TOC?

Thanks
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
Also, if anyone comes across a trainee driver role with any other TOCs or can suggest a way to keep abreast of these vacancies, please let me know.

Appreciated

Hi SheikG,

That really is horrible news. Try to get as much feedback as possible on where you may have gone wrong. As difficult as it will be to feel positive right now, you've shown that you have the right qualities to be a train driver by passing the assessments, it may just be a case of brushing up on your interview skills.

In terms of the 6 month rule, I would say it's 6 months from the day of the DMI before you can apply again, although I'm sure someone in the know on here can tell you for definite.

The best thing for you to do now would be to sign up for job alerts from all TOCs (and FOCs!) in your area (or as far as you would be willing to relocate). The career sites for each operator will have instructions on how to do this. Don't rule out other operational roles such as depot driver, groundstaff etc., as these can be a way to get your foot in the door.

Above all, keep your chin up!

Hi SheikG,

Sorry to hear the bad news. Hopefully you can use this experience to land you a role as a train driver for another TOC.

I thought the 6month rule applied to doing the tests and for the same TOC but I am not sure on this one.

In regards to keeping an eye out this forum normally is good when other opportunities arise and signing for updates like interlude said. I think Virgin are currently recruiting so may want to look at there wesite.

All the best in future applications.

Manager interviews aren't recorded on any central database, so you can apply to other TOCs straight away.

Why keep it "alive" by continually posting? Surely it gets in the way of threads where folk really do have issues or have answers for folk?

Hi guys, received my contract last week but not due to start until Oct 2017. In regards to the contract, how many people opted out or in for the normal working hours?
Not received anything about my medical yet but believe that is around 3months before start date?

I signed also, figured I sign it now and if I need to change my mind for whatever reason there is always the option to do so. When did you get your details for your medical?

They rang me last Friday to say there was a couple free spaces on the 26th that they wanted to fill the day right up otherwise I prob would of been end of feb/March for medical.
I thought I was one of last groups to start in may didn't know they are going up to October maybe further for old oak common!?

I had the same situation. Originally I was booked to start in June 2017 after about month they called to that starting date will move to August and about month ago I got another call with info that unfortunately they don't have any introductory classes in August and my date will move to 02 Oct 2017. Since then I received my contract which I signed and sent off.

Regarding agreement that you will work more than 48h a week is because we will be on shift work pattern therefore you may work from Sunday to Wednesday off Thursday/ Friday and back to work on Saturday - at least this is how I understand this.

Cannot wait to start!

I also got my contract last week but don't start till October 2017. Also opted in for the normal working hours on the contract, as someone previously mentioned there is the option to change this with 3 months notice.

Wow! Seems like everyone who has been offered the job has been given their contracts regardless of their respective starting dates. I received my contract as well a couple of weeks ago and I'm about to start my training early next year. I'm really buzzin!! Can't wait to be part of the team ??????

Hi guys & girls, just want some clarification on a few things please. 1) How far before starting do you do your medical? 2) After the medical, how long before you get your results? 3) Has anyone had their start date moved forward, if yeah did they receive no paperwork?
