Got an email a few days ago saying i have passed stage 3! got my assessment centre Feb 1 !... l am soo excited but same time so worried!!.

stage 1 & 2 were soo easy for me.. but the last part of stage 3 just caught me out.. and had made a few mistakes.

l was wondering if anyone has gone and done... the assessment centre before?... like how was it and what actually happens on the day.... on the email it saying if you get the after 9pm your not even allowed to take the tests. they sound very strict. i mean its a 55k. they gotta be.

also in the pratice materails they sent.. there was info about an interview? is this the same day as the tests or....?

& l also wanted to ask... do you take all four tests and den after you know its your through to the next stage or.... do you take maybe like 2 in the morning and den they tell you if you passed and then in the aftermoon if you passed you take like 2 more? like how does it all work?

any advice will be greatful.. super nervous! l feel like the only female on this forum, & im 20 too. so if l get this job! it will be a great start for my career!!!over the moon but so worried. lol.

It depends on how they do things on the day. Stage one tests will be pen and paper tests, although people did turn up late and were not turned away. Still, show up on time. You sit a couple of tests which takes a hour or two (the dots text/group bourdon test as well as the TRP tests). You get sent on a break while they mark up the scores. If your score isn't good enough for MTR enchanced standards, you get sent home with a feedback sheet.

If you're through the first sift, you sit a few more pen and paper tests. One test involved counting tones and searching through a directory, and the other the driver fault finding test. That's basically stage one assessment centre. If successful, well done! You're now through to stage two.

Stage two is the computer tests along with interviews, although this may vary. You'll do the reaction tests on computer, as well as the situational judgement test again (the stage two of the online test), and if successful, you do your MMI. Once that's a pass... you've successfully passed the train driver assessment and then you've got a DMI interview lined up for another date, although on some intakes they do MMI and DMI on the same day.

You can't really practice for the assessments as such, and they're not that tricky looking back. I know it may sound obvious, but best advice is focus on both speed and accuracy. Best of luck to everyone invited to the assessment centre!

You're right on most apart from the reaction test. It seems like that have changed the test slightly, as on the 2nd day we are doing WAFV vigilance test, 2Hand coordination test, ATAVT, Situation judgement test, multi-modal interview. No mention of reaction tests anywhere in the email package I receive.

Yes by reaction tests I meant all those you mentioned, I have no clue about the old tests as I have not sat them.

And yes to the poster above, I have done the process with MTR already...

Looking back, all the tests I found quite easy. Just work through them all quickly and accurately as they look for both. Everyone was on time to my assessment days so can't comment on that, just DO NOT forget your ID and National Insurance number.

The hardest part of the whole process for me was the MMI interview. If you want advice on the actual tests there is an old MTR thread which has all the information you will need. good luck!!

...or of course you can become a bus driver at any time...Companies looking for girls all the time..and it is a great career choice: great money, lovely new buses, a lot of customers to deal with ,enormous opportunity for working rest days and overtime , great colleagues!
It is a dream job indeed!Think about this.
And imagine: buses can run perfectly OK in rain, wind, hot and cold weather , even in a snow and leafs on the road!!?!How is that er?

Yes!, hopefuly l get it but obvs if i dont.. my second plan is to become a bus driver. But looking at how long it takes just to get the posotion.. l read its 9months it takes to complete the assessments n interviews. so by then lol il probz be a bus driver by the looks of it.

Nothing to worry about, once you login it will detect your computer/iPad and will not let you do it if it's not suitable. I think you'll be ok.

Is there anyone on the forum that can confirm no mini interview is carried out on the 1st assessment day for cross rail? Could save me a lot of time and effort if I knew just to focus on the practicing the tests.

There is no interview on the first assessment day. On the second assessment day you have the MMI. Then you get emailed a date for your DMI

Does anyone know whether it will be just the one assessment day. Have scheduling conflict on the 5th of January and am wondering if I they only run one or a couple of these assessment days. Don't want to officially ask them/clear schedule till I have more information. Any help greatly appreciated.

You can't really practise the sjt as the questions will not be the same in the real test .the practise material is just to give you an Idea or what to expect . It's based on you as a person to how you would deal with certain situations

If anyone is still to do the stage 3 online test then I would say using a mouse is essential.when it comes to the final part of the test you need to move the cursor across the page QUICKLY and using the pad on a laptop is not good enough and I think is what caused me to fail.
I hope crossrail will employ more trainees in the future and I'll be more prepared.

On average, how long have people had to wait from taking the initial online test to hear if they have progressed to the next stage?

Waited around 48 hours after the 1st set of online tests, once I completed the 2nd set of online test I had to wait a painful 12 days to get put on an assessment day which is early Jan. glad it's after Christmas because if I was to fail it would be a bit of a downer. I've got time to practice before so fingers crossed I'll be ok!
