There is a small blackout on the msn servers, it's sweeping through accounts, should finish soon,

it's like a power surge.

Failbook being offline will have nothing to do with msn being off, which does occasionally happen. Just hold on while i confirm that the world isn't ending.

Does anyone else find this site agonisingly slow on ipod touch?

Yes - being online isn't a problem, its just talking to people that isn't working!

Keep getting messages saying I've reached my limit per minute on msn - when I've ony sent one message.

As for Facebook, I've only signed up to it in the past 3 days, so I thought perhaps those problems were normal!

I'm signed into MSN but can't send any messages. No problem with Facebook.

This is one of the reasons i prefer aim over msn. I can be signed into aim for weeks at a time without a single service dropout. Msn i am lucky to go a few days without such. I only use msn because it's more popular and as such folk think it is 'better' when it clearly isn't

I think it's affecting me now as well, as everyone keeps going offline.
It appears that it's not thae same as what's happened to me before, and is afffecting ebuddy, it just affected my account a bit later on.
Ah well.

Well if the servers themselves are knackered, or someone unplugged the server farm to use the hoover, nothing will work, quite logically! It's a bit like when MySpace has outages, it can stagger over days affecting different people as each friend ID could be on a completely different server or even site.

Quite ironically, after posting what I did earlier, my AIM is still signed in but it appears none of my contacts are online (unheard of, one of my contacts literally never signs off, and I have the aolsystemmsg added as a contact) and yet MSN is showing my contact list lit up <(:D

Alas, a quick reboot of my IM client and AIM is back in business, unsurprising given it's probably been running since last reboot of this computer, 45 days ago

Wondered why people kept signing in and out.

At 1 point, I thought I was in a brothel as everyone was on and off more times than a prostitute's knickers

I hardly ever use MSN, so I can't comment on how often that stays up/goes down. Bear in mind though that it's a Microsoft thing (And Microsoft are as stingy over equipment as I am) and consequently most of the MSN servers are probabally still running NT4. Maybe it's about time they upgraded them to Vista Windows Server 2003CE? ;)

Facebook - On the other hand - P***es me off no end. Not so much because of site availability or anything like that, but more because the site forces users to have Javascript enabled to do literally anything...Even making a simple wall post - Something that can easily be processed on the server side - Requires allowing scripts on facebook.com, fbcdn.net and googleapis.com! <(

For someone like myself who prefers to keep a stranglehold on what scripts can run on his machine (And from which sites such scripts may be accepted) and uses the NoScript extension in Firefox, I get continually peed off with the number of sites that force me to enable JS just to login or perform a simple posting! <(
When will the webmasters of these sites realise that not all of us are so willing or able to embrace the blight that is Web 2.0?...:?:

Incidentally - Talking of website downtime - Did I just have a bad connection to the site's nameserver, or was RailUK down for a few hours earlier this morning?;)

Farewell... <D

I don't use MSN as much as I used to, mostly because I have a lame version of it and it sometimes stops working. But as for facebook I seem to get a delay in the notifications corner where I get an email before the number pops up, and I sometimes get a delay in the emails from posts, where I receive the email a long time after it should have come.

From what I know, that notification icon is attached to a JS widget that updates with the server every minute or so - It's not real-time. If thy browser had just updated the box, there'd be about 60 seconds for an e-mail to arrive before FB's notification system refreshed and told ye about it. :)

That's probabally just due to large volumes of traffic on FB's and your own mail servers. Assuming ye use a popular web-based e-mail solution (Or ISP e-mail running on less capable servers) it's probable that either the origin or destination servers might simply have a lot of work to deal with, resulting in a delay. :)

Even without the amount of spam that flys across the Internet nowadays, the notification e-mails automatically sent by sites like Facebook and MySpace in themselves generate more e-mail traffic than the LoveLetter virus ever did. :!:

I've never seen the attraction with facebook, and I stopped using myspace and bebo at least a year ago. It just seems to me like coronation street on a webpage. (metaphor)
