Having just tried it with both of my cars, it will only send a message to the car if that owner has regsitered their details into the (very unofficial) scheme. How many people do we honestly think will be bothered?

Personally I'd call it an absolutely atrocious idea, it's wide open to every abuse imaginable

This was my first thought too, plus the potential for it to be used by stalkers. Though as @Llanigraham points out the owner of that registration number would need to sign up in order to receive any messages sent- which at face value would prevent misuse. I'd still be concerned about the data security of the service though.

Well - it won’t prevent misuse, merely act as a filter. If you register, on your own head be it. The problem only comes if/when a really useful service to drivers is made available exclusively to users.

It'll prevent nefarious misuse by would-be stalkers, because their target most likely won't be on the service.
Someone could sign someone else up without their knowledge, but they'd already need that person's contact details in order for it to have any effect.

The kind of driver who needs a talking to about their driving is unlikely to take the initiative to sign up to such a platform.

The data is stored in the US according to their Privacy Notice, which is odd for a site which exclusively facilitates communication between UK road users.
