I'm once again stumped - I have only one piece of evidence that a Mr. Johnson was ever a Station Master at Great Harwood, he gives evidence at a trial in an assault case. Preston Guardian, Wednesday 10 August 1887. Name mentioned on page 7, columns 1 or 2. Apart from this article I have no other information, and but for the article he wouldn't be on my station masters list. Would just like to put some flesh on the bones.
In this article his name is spelt Johnston with a first name of John (I think), last name could be Johnson, Johnston, possibly Johnstone.
I can't find him in the 1891 census returns for Lancashire, don't know where he was stationed before or where he went to / when he left, and I can't find any suitable trade directories covering this period for Blackburn online. I can't find any mention of him at all.
I'm left wondering if he was a relief SM? although the newspapers seemed to be good at mentioning if a person was a relief SM or not.
Could someone help me please on this one.
