Hi, Due to family circumstances I'm considering relocating to the Banbury area.

Does anyone know of any areas that its best to avoid when buying a home?

I've heard Grimsby, anywhere near Rushcote ave and also the highlands aren't great. Is that snobbery or good advice?

Anyone from that part of the world who can guide me towards the 'nicer' parts of Banbury?

Also, as an aside is the commute across town from the south of Banbury, up to junct 11 M40 a nightmare or liveable?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

There is a new estate right by the station (which is technically Grimsbury I guess) which looks nice. A few of the lads who work at Banbury depot live there and have no complaints. It may be possible to rent for six months there and get a feel for the town before you commit to buying somewhere. The drive out to the motorway from that side of town is a doddle, it's dual carriageway almost all the way.

If you've got a bit more money then Bloxham and Addersbury, which are small villages on the southern edge of town are nice. Kings Sutton is about the same distance out but seems to have something of a reputation, but that might just be Oxfordshire/Northamptonshire snobbery. Cant comment on what the race to the motorway from there is like though.

Firstly, what an interesting post to appear within the Railway Jobs & Careers section. This wouldn't happen to have anything to do with the Driver Manager post at Banbury that appeared on the Chiltern website today would it?

Anyhow, having been born and bred here, as a whole the town isn't bad. Infact, at times it can be rather boring.

As Cherry Picker mentions, the new 'Cattle Market' development part of Grimsbury is still considered to be, well, a Cattle Market with the density of people that live there. Grimsbury in itself is rather diverse, with those of an Asian and Eastern European background being the main occupiers (mainly because it is close to the Warehouse work available next to the M40).

Cherwell Heights (Bankside), is the point in Banbury that will take you the longest to get to the Motorway, otherwise if your based within Hanwell Fields, Hardwick or Bretch Hill it shouldn't take you more than 10 minutes maximum.
All of the above are reasonably reputable areas to live in, Ruscote use to have a poor reputation many years ago but it has significantly improved since.

As Cherry Picker says again, there are many villages placed around Banbury which are all lovely. Again, approx 15-20 mins from M40 max in peak.

If your looking for a complete new build, Longford Park is the current major development that will substantially affect Banbury traffic levels in the future, although we rarely have any major congestion, only when the M40 is closed.

My overall advice for the future would to be placed anywhere from the Banbury Cross (town centre) to the north west of the town.

As for the town itself? Major expansion is planned with a new retail park by the M40, redevelopment of the town centre, bigger better infrastructure etc.

All exciting times really. Although, if you're coming for the towns nightlife, don't bother, it's far from brilliant.

I hope this helps and any other questions do ask.

Thank you, very helpful. I'm thinking of sticking with the Banbury town itself.

Ha! Nothing that dramatic, I'm nowhere near that pay grade!

I'm not sure I would go for any of the new builds at Longford. New homes seem to come with lots of snags and issues.

Many thank you for the info. It gives me a lot to look into.
