Mouse stops WCML

Yes you read that correct a mouse has managed to stop the most WCML around Lancaster. Delays / Cancellations were the result and many football fans missed their football match (blessing in disguise you could say). How in the name of everything can a mouse cause so many problems. How long have railways been running and they wait until to cause problems. The millions and millions of pounds spent on the WCML and a mouse makes it look like a bigger joke than it already was. Thank god it wasn't a rat, then the situation good have been worse. The train may have been delayed so long that the fans missed this game and the next game!

Any thoughts on tricky micky mouse.

I though it was virgin trains latest joke when i first heard it. Like referbishing trains only built 8 year ago.

Not as stupid as it sounds, a rodent had chewed through some cabling. Brunel had similar rodent problems disrupting his railway[1] over 160 years ago!

[1] Although they weren't the main cause of the failure of his atmospheric railway they were a small factor.

Perhaps this was a rat in Arriva clothing straying, I understand a few have been spotted in Cardiff getting off XC

Not sure how i would have acted if i was on the train. Either laugh or cry i suppose. If i was the guard i would laugh, yeah thats bad but i've got that kind of humour. I'm being payed and my trains late "due to a mouse" you've got to laugh.

I'm still laughing now and i first heard this over an hour ago.

Mice can get through holes in anything. And if a mouse should happen to bridge some contacts in a signalling location cabinet or relay room with it's body, or indeed chew through some cables, you may well get some blown equipment/major disruption to deal with. As well as a most likely rather dead mouse.

More than one long standing inconvenient but none safety critical fault has eventually been traced to a dead animal causing issues!

Network Rail: Where is yr risk analysis and protections for the WCML (and any other route) re a notional continuous operation disruption criteria? Rumour has it that a strategically located piece of cheese and an armed wire may limit such occurances.

That said, be careful, some mice may have the technology to read this forum.

Was luck to avoid this then seemingly! Travelled through from Workington to Preston this evening (1930 arrival) with no problem at all!
